Our story

Kapiti Island Island Honey is gathered from the lush native slopes of New Zealand’s most treasured Nature Reserve, Kapiti Island. Our family have been proud caretakers of this land since 1820, and are excited to share a small piece of that history with you today.

Our island bees have filled each jar with a delicious honey from native bush including Manuka, Kanuka, Rata and Rewarewa. This year’s harvest has a strong Manuka presence, and we know you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Our family has worked on and for the island in some capacity, since our people arrived from Kawhia in 1820 – from the days of our great great grandmother Metapere, to the farming days of our great grandfather Wi Parata. We’ve carried this tradition on with our Kapiti Island Nature Tours experience, and we see a beautiful alignment of further added conservation value of the island through the pollination work of the bees.

You can visit Kapiti Island for a day tour, or truly experience all the island has to offer with an overnight stay at the lodge. Kapiti Island Nature Tours offer the unique chance to spend the night on Kapiti where our family will tell you the stories of the island that is so close to our hearts, and show you the true beauty of New Zealand the way it used to be.
